With Teeth

Saturday we did our usual run to the Farmer's market downtown, and made our usual rounds, produce, bread, grass-fed beef. I ran into a friend who had her own stand this weekend, (lavender eye pillows) and she held Lachlan and reported the presence of two little teeth. This was a surprise to me, and I looked, and sure enough. Two little razor-thin protusions on his lower gums. I felt them for the rest of the weekend, painfully, when Lachlan would grab my fingers and put them in his mouth, only to then rub his gums over them as if he were playing a speedy little tune on a harmonica.

So now I am in a rush to capture some toothless photos, that smile I see makes me so happy. I was a little sad, admittedly, to welcome these two new guests, these teeth. (Guests that won't leave for a while and mark the coming tide of more long-term guests) I felt sad like I did when, at four weeks, I read the dosage label on some gripe water: Infants, 0-3 weeks, Babies, 4 + weeks...(Or some demarcation like that) My newborn was no longer an infant. And now my baby has teeth.
