Our 14 Pound baby
The last post was actually from a few weeks ago, I forgot to publish. Lachlan has since decided to cry first thing in the morning. So that little video I was sure to post hasn't been so easy to capture. Although he does beam from ear to ear everytime you put him on the change table, ready for that little wipe down and a clean, dry cotton diaper. So I may film his little grin sometime from that event. Lachlan has grown, fast even for me! He now weighs in at over 14 pounds and seems to have gotten very "tall." I say tall, but I guess since he cannot stand, he has gotten "long." And he is thick. We saw some new cousins this weekend, well one of our two new cousins, and she was tiny. Lachlan was never that tiny. We never held a teeny, quiet, clutching baby. He was pushed out, ready and calm, umblical cord severed, eyes quickly open. He was big, but not huge. He could lift his head up, and you only needed to rest your hand at the back of his neck, he was relatively stable. And for a few days he had moments of quiet, and even calm, where even his limbs were still. Like when we put him in the carseat. And the rest of the time he slept or cried. But now everything is growing more complex. He has different cries. Angry. Angrier. Agitated. Feelings Hurt. And What the F... The last one is a strange kind of scream that tells you that he wants you to know how unexpected it was that you did whatever you did. Like put a washcloth on his tummy. Or introduce him to the mail carrier. And now he many different modes of eating: really hungry, where he cries as he sucks; playful eating, playing with the bottle nipple; focused eating, curious eating, where he looks around the room and at you. He is making moves to sit up. He pushes his little legs out and looks like he could stand from where he has been propped against sofa pillows. He "crunches" forward if you hold each of his hands in each of yours. And, unfortunately, even though we would like to avoid letting him watch television until he is at least 2, he loves it. His head spins around to see what is on unless you make a concerted effort to block his view. And the more common event now is talking. Sometimes he talks so loud, we wonder if he isn't yelling at us. And the funny thing is, I know these are all things that are so common to the development of every baby, but I talk about it, and I think about it, like he is the most amazing super baby, and like everything he does, has never been done before! Which it has never been done by him. And he is an amazing super baby, even if only to us.
