The New Year

Lachlan had his first New Year out of the womb, and he spent it with us at my brother Rey's house in San Antonio. About 20 minutes to midnight,  Lachlan pooped out, and we retreated to bed, and so we shared a few quiet moments together at midnight. We had driven all evening to get to SA, Lachlan fairly unhappy for whatever hours he was awake.
So the 31t also marks the retirement of his infant carseat. We got our new fancy convertible carseat, and we took it our of the car for the final time for our long drive. Jason did it, and as usual for me, seeing the "old" carseat made me sad. Lockie weights, I bet, 25 pounds, and so he is at least 3 pounds past due for the infant seat. But being so young, I really expected that seat to last him to the one year mark. But around 7-1/2 months, (or younger, I cannot remember) we started looking for a new seat. But time is so limited, and carseat technology so confusing, we have postponed the purchase.
The changes happen too quickly to document. Lachlan just climbed up the stairs at Rey's house a few minutes ago, with Grandpa and Daddy trailing him closely. First one step, then within a few minutes, the whole flight. Yikes.
He skipped the whole sippy cup thing and is drinking out of a cup now. On the one hand that, on the other hand, he doesn't hold his own bottle up. He is eating some solids, we try to limit it to veggies, and he does well with it. It seems like he does it primarily for fun, and doesn't eat enough for fullness.
He stands easily and holds himself against a table on puts a hands on someone's leg, and everyone tells me he may walk soon, although I was really hoping he would be at least 14 months before we crossed that road.
We are seeing a more aggressive side now. He throws toys he doesn't want to play with, and will do things progressively harder if you try and deter him from doing something, like grabbing at something.
Headed to the riverwalk before the game, and Jason and Lachlan took some photos with some "Mexican soldiers" at the Alamo. Lachlan's face was turned for every photo because he was fixated on the big hats and guns. We also went to Margaritas and had some mariachi music at our table. One of the singers stood right by Lockie and sang to him, and Lachlan was completely transfixed on the guitar, and the guy, and the music, and it was really fun to see.
Doing some decipherable babbling. Lots of Ma-ma and Da-da, but also Ba-ba and pa-pa(food), and rarely in association with anything in particular.
Headed back home tomorrow and we are all back to the grind...
